APC Opens New Energy Leadership Programme For Youths

The National Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to screen 124 applicants for the inaugural Mustapha Abdullahi Energy Leadership Fellowship (MAELF), a programme aimed at nurturing young leaders and innovators in the energy sector.

The seven-day residential fellowship attracted 1,212 applications from young Nigerians and other Africans seeking to contribute to developments in the energy industry.

According to the organisers, the programme is designed to equip participants with knowledge in renewable energy, energy transition policy, climate action, leadership and governance.

Speaking on the fellowship, APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, said the initiative is intended to prepare a new generation of energy professionals and policy thinkers.

“The future of Nigeria’s economic growth and industrial development depends largely on the quality of leadership within the energy sector. Through MAELF, we are building a new generation of energy experts, policy innovators, entrepreneurs and executives who will drive Nigeria’s energy transition and position Africa as a global force in sustainable energy development,” he said.

He added that outstanding fellows would benefit from internship placements, mentorship opportunities, policy engagement platforms, field visits and access to grants of up to ₦20 million to support clean-energy initiatives.

The APC National Youth Wing said the fellowship aligns with ongoing efforts to expand youth participation in the energy sector and with Nigeria’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
