Vanilla Ice’s Freedom 250 Performance Called Off As Bad Weather Shuts Down Event

Vanilla Ice’s scheduled performance at the Freedom 250 celebration was called off at the last minute after organisers shut down Friday’s festivities because of severe weather in the Washington, D.C., area.

The Grammy-nominated rapper was among the few artists who had remained on the lineup despite criticism surrounding the Trump-backed event. However, organisers announced that the Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone at the National Mall would close for the remainder of Friday, June 26.

In a statement shared on X, event officials said the decision was made with public safety in mind.

“Due to inclement weather in the area, the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone will be closed for the rest of the day — Friday, June 26, 2026.

“The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available. The Great American State Fair will reopen tomorrow at 10 AM.”

The cancellation came only hours after the “Ice Ice Baby” hitmaker shared an upbeat video from his sound check at the National Mall, expressing excitement about the night’s show.

“Guess where we are,” he said in the clip. “We got the [Washington] Monument right there. We’re about to have a great party tonight. This is gonna be epic.”

Vanilla Ice had previously defended his decision to perform after several artists, including Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Morris Day, Young MC and The Commodores, withdrew from the event because of its ties to President Donald Trump.

In an Instagram post last month, the rapper insisted the celebration was about patriotism rather than politics.

“Happy birthday, America, 250 years. It’s gonna be an epic party,” he wrote. “This is to bring us all together. I’m tired of all the news channels dividing this country. We are all one. This is not a political platform. This is celebrating America’s birthday. Nothing too serious, just enjoying some fun, dancing and great memories. Hope you guys can join us.”

Freedom 250 is the public-private organisation established by the Trump administration to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
