Olugbenga Agboola, OON, is one of Africa’s most influential technology entrepreneurs, celebrated for transforming the continent’s financial services landscape through innovation, visionary leadership, and an unwavering commitment to financial inclusion.

As the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, Agboola has built one of the continent’s most successful fintech enterprises, enabling millions of businesses and individuals to participate seamlessly in the global digital economy.

Widely regarded as a pioneer of Africa’s fintech revolution, Agboola has dedicated his career to solving one of the continent’s biggest challenges—creating efficient, secure, and scalable payment infrastructure. Under his leadership, Flutterwave has evolved into a global payments powerhouse, connecting African businesses with customers across the world while simplifying cross-border commerce in over 30 African countries. Today, Flutterwave serves thousands of businesses, from startups and SMEs to multinational corporations, making digital payments faster, safer, and more accessible.

Agboola’s remarkable journey is built on a strong academic foundation that combines engineering excellence with global business leadership. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical and Electronics Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, before advancing his executive education through prestigious global institutions, including the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford and the MIT Sloan School of Management. His multidisciplinary education has enabled him to bridge technology, innovation, strategy, and entrepreneurship—qualities that continue to define his leadership style.

Before founding Flutterwave in 2016 alongside Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Agboola amassed extensive experience across leading global technology companies and financial institutions. He worked as an Application Engineer at PayPal, where he gained valuable expertise in digital payment systems, before joining Google in Product Management, contributing to innovative financial technology initiatives. His professional journey also includes leadership positions at Guaranty Trust Bank, Standard Bank (Stanbic IBTC), Sterling Bank, and Access Bank, where he championed digital transformation, mobile financial services, and innovative banking solutions. Earlier in his entrepreneurial career, he founded a fintech venture specializing in alternative payment systems, which was successfully acquired by a major Nigerian bank—demonstrating his ability to build scalable technology businesses from an early stage.

Since launching Flutterwave, Agboola has led the company through extraordinary growth, establishing it as one of Africa’s highest-valued technology companies and one of the continent’s most recognized innovation success stories. His vision extends beyond payments; he has positioned Flutterwave as critical infrastructure powering Africa’s digital economy, enabling merchants, entrepreneurs, developers, financial institutions, and governments to transact effortlessly across borders. His leadership has accelerated financial inclusion, supported the growth of African commerce, and strengthened the continent’s position within the global digital marketplace.

Beyond building Flutterwave, Agboola has emerged as one of Africa’s most respected technology investors and ecosystem builders. Through strategic investments, he actively supports promising early-stage startups across sectors including fintech, health technology, insurance technology, artificial intelligence, and digital commerce. His portfolio includes innovative companies such as Casava, Curacel, and TuShop, reflecting his commitment to nurturing the next generation of African entrepreneurs.

Further advancing his mission to foster innovation, Agboola launched Go Time AI, an initiative designed to accelerate Africa’s artificial intelligence ecosystem by providing selected startups with funding of up to $200,000, mentorship, and access to strategic networks. The initiative reflects his belief that Africa can become a global leader in emerging technologies through investment in local talent and innovation.

Agboola’s influence extends well beyond business.
