Kogi State Police Command has begun investigation into the alleged murder of a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro local government area, following an assault linked to the disciplining of a pupil.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Maryam Usman, reportedly died on June 25, 2026, after sustaining severe injuries during the attack.
According to the police command, preliminary investigations revealed that on June 18, 2026, one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, stormed the school and allegedly assaulted the deceased for disciplining a pupil.
Maryam Usman was initially rushed to a hospital in Ugbamaka for treatment before she was referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo due to the severity of her injuries. She later succumbed to the injuries on June 25.
The incident was reported to the Kogi State Police Command through the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on the day of her death.
Police operatives subsequently visited both the scene of the incident and the deceased’s residence, where necessary documentation was carried out.
The command disclosed that arrangements are underway to convey the corpse to the General Hospital in Ankpa for medical examination and an autopsy.
The suspects reportedly fled before the arrival of the police, and security operatives have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.
The Police Command assured that once the suspects are arrested, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and comprehensive investigation, with a view to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
