The Zamfara State Chairman of the Action Alliance (AA), Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu, has condemned the reported attack on the party’s presidential candidate, Aare Adekunle Rufai Omoaje, describing the incident as a threat to democratic values and peaceful political engagement.
According to reports, Aare Adekunle Rufai Omoaje was reportedly attacked on Saturday while attending a burial ceremony in Osun State.
The incident was said to have occurred after clashes involving supporters of rival political groups disrupted the event, forcing the Action Alliance presidential candidate to leave the venue for safety reasons.
In a statement released on Sunday, the state leadership of the party said political disagreements should never degenerate into violence or intimidation, regardless of party affiliation.
Aliyu maintained that every political actor deserves the freedom to interact with supporters and pursue legitimate ambitions without fear for personal safety, noting that tolerance and respect for differing opinions remain fundamental pillars of democracy.
He stressed that actions capable of creating fear within the political space could undermine public confidence in the electoral process and discourage active citizen participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
According to the statement, safeguarding political freedoms and protecting opposition voices are essential responsibilities in a democratic society, adding that violence should never be allowed to shape the nation’s political discourse.
The Zamfara chapter also urged political stakeholders across the country to embrace issue-based campaigns and reject actions capable of inflaming tensions within the polity.
It reaffirmed its support for Omoaje and expressed confidence that the incident would not deter the party from pursuing its vision or participating peacefully in Nigeria’s democratic process
