TCN Completes Live-line Repair On Zaria–Funtua 132kV Without Disrupting Power Supply

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said its Kaduna live-line crew carried out maintenance on the Zaria–Funtua 132kV transmission line without disrupting bulk power supply.

TCN’s general manager of public affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the exercise ran from Saturday, July 4 to Tuesday, July 7, 2026. She said the team replaced damaged glass disc insulators on selected towers using a mix of polymer and glass insulators to restore the insulation strings.

Mbah said the affected towers included T14, T17, T40, T63, T78, T175, T177 and T178, and that each tower had at least five damaged glass disc insulators. “Our live-line crew successfully replaced those insulators while the line remained energized,” she said.

She added that carrying out the work under energised conditions removed the need for a planned outage.

“We completed the maintenance without interrupting bulk electricity transmission,” Mbah said.

Mbah said the successful exercise demonstrated TCN’s commitment to a safe, reliable and efficient transmission network.

“We continue to deploy modern live-line maintenance techniques to protect system integrity and minimise disruption to customers,” she said.
