Yobe  Sends 16 Lecturers On Postgraduate Studies To India

Yobe State hovernor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved full sponsorship for 16 medical lecturers of Yobe State University (YSU) to pursue postgraduate studies in India to strengthen the institution’s College of Medical Sciences and secure full accreditation for its medical programmes.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Tahir, disclosed this in a statement issued by the information officer, Office of the Vice Chancellor Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani.

He said the intervention was aimed at enhancing the university’s academic capacity and meeting the accreditation requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

According to him, the lecturers will undertake Master’s degree programmes with prospects of progressing to PhD studies in Human Anatomy, Physiology, Clinical Pharmacology, Medical Biochemistry and Medical Microbiology.

He said the specialised training would help address manpower shortages in the College of Medical Sciences by producing qualified academics capable of improving teaching, research and innovation, while strengthening the university’s capacity to train medical professionals.

He said the first batch of the sponsored lecturers had arrived at Integral University, Lucknow, India, accompanied by the commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa, the vice-chancellor, and the provost of the College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Garba Mohammed Ashiru.

He added that discussions with the management of the Indian university also explored opportunities for broader academic collaboration in agriculture, engineering and technology through staff and student exchange programmes, joint research, curriculum development and the sharing of international best practices.

Tahir said the intervention would strengthen the university’s quest to attain and sustain full accreditation for its medical programmes and position the College of Medical Sciences as a centre for quality medical education, research and healthcare delivery.

He commended Governor Buni for prioritizing the education and health sectors, describing the sponsorship as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to human capital development and the long-term improvement of higher education and healthcare services in the state.
