Senator Natasha Urges FG To Deny South African Artistes Visas In Reciprocal Move

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on the Federal Government and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to apply the diplomatic principle of reciprocity regarding visa issuance to South African entertainers.

Her call follows public reactions to the reported visa denial and subsequent show cancellation of Nigerian singer Ayra Starr in South Africa, alongside growing calls by citizens to boycott an upcoming Lagos concert by South African singer Tyla.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that international relations rely on mutual respect, emphasizing that if Nigerian creatives are denied entry abroad, Nigeria should respond with equal administrative measures to protect the dignity of its citizens.

She clarified that the demand is not aimed at any individual artiste, but serves as a reminder that host nations must accord fair and respectful treatment to Nigerian travellers and artists.
