Kwankwaso National Network (KNN), South East zone, has rejected Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s claim that governors of the zone have resolved to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The zones’s coordinator of the KNN, Dr Ukpai Ukpai, stated this at press conference themed, “The Position of the Kwankwaso National Network on Current Political Developments in Nigeria” in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
He explained that such a declaration neither reflects the mood of the people of the South East nor carries the democratic mandate of the South East electorate.
”As a formidable political network with an active grassroots presence across the region, we remind him that governors cannot unilaterally determine the political choice of the zone,” he noted
He said working with their strategic partners, the KNN is fully committed to delivering at least five million votes for the Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket from the South East in 2027.
He lauded Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso for shelving his 2027 presidential ambition and accepting a joint ticket with Peter Obi “to rescue the country from political hijack by tiny political merchants”.
”This is a strategic move to liberate our democracy from the claws of the incompetent ruling All Progressives Congress and to unite the previously seriously fragmented opposition.”
According to him, their goal is to mobilise at least one million votes from each of the five states of the zone’s Independent National Electoral Commission registered 10,907,606 votes.
”We are determined to surpass Peter Obi’s 2023 performance in the zone and ensure that the Obi – Kwankwaso ticket records a resounding landslide across the region.
”In view of the growing popularity of the Obi – Kwankwaso ticket, we declare our readiness to meet our target. We have already put in place water-tight strategies to actualise this.”
Ukpai stressed that they would not leave anything to chance in their readiness as they had put in place robust mechanisms to safeguard the votes of the people in the zone.
The zonal coordinator further stated that they would firmly resist any attempt to manipulate or alter the genuine verdict of voters in the 2027 general election.
He, therefore added “We state unequivocally that the controversial technical glitches witnessed during the 2023 elections must not reoccur in 2027.’
”Votes must count, and we remain resolute in our commitment to protecting the people’s mandate. Never again should the will of the electorate be subverted.”
