Jigawa Commits N3bn To Gwaram Gully Erosion Control

The Jigawa State Government, has increased the budget for the Kila Gully Erosion Control Project in Gwaram local government area to N3.2 billion.

Governor Umar Namadi disclosed this during an inspection of the project to ensure that work is proceeding in accordance with the contractual agreement.

He said the state government is satisfied with the level of work completed and  also approved additional works which necessitated the budget increase.

“From what we have inspected today, we are satisfied with the progress of the work. The stone pitching and drainage construction are progressing well.

“I have directed the contractors to extend the stone pitching and reinforce additional sections of the drainage channels to ensure that the project stands the test of time,” he said.

The governor further stated that the Kila gully erosion control project is one of several erosion control initiatives undertaken by his administration to reclaim hundreds of hectares of land lost to the menace.

Namadi added that his administration has been actively collaborating with communities and other critical stakeholders to combat environmental degradation which threatens people’s livelihoods and the ecosystem.

The governor also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of bridges along the Gwaram-Basirka Road and other road infrastructure projects in the area as part of his administration’s efforts to fulfill campaign promises.
