Senator Hanga Finally Quits NDC

The Senate Deputy Minority Whip representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Senator Rufai Hanga, has formally resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ending weeks of speculation over his continued membership of the party.

Hanga announced his resignation in a letter dated August 3, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the NDC in Dakata Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The lawmaker said his resignation took immediate effect.

“I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from today, 3rd August, 2026,” the letter read.

He explained that the decision followed “careful reflection and personal deliberation,” adding that he had chosen to withdraw his membership to pursue “other personal commitments and career paths.”
Although Hanga did not disclose his next political destination or future plans, his resignation is expected to fuel fresh political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The senator expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party at the ward level for their support during his stay in the NDC.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to you, the Ward Executive Committee, and the entire membership of Dakata Ward for the opportunities, support and fellowship I enjoyed during my time with the party,” he stated.

He added that he cherished the relationships built and experiences shared through the party’s political activities.

Hanga also said he had returned his NDC membership card and requested that his name be removed from the party’s register at the ward level.

“Please find attached my official NDC membership card. I request that my name be formally removed from the party register at the ward level,” he wrote.

The senator wished the party and its members success in their future endeavours.
