Amotekun Rescues 2 Abducted Herders In Ondo

Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has rescued two young Fulani herders abducted by suspected kidnappers in a forest along the Ondo/Edo boundary.

The victims, identified as Abubakar Umaru and Abdullahi Umaru, were reportedly tending cattle in Owo area of the state when they were abducted and taken into the forest.

The state commander of Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the operatives launched a search operation after the victims’ parents reported that the two boys had failed to return home with the cattle.

Adeleye, who disclosed this yesterday to journalists, said the operatives first recovered the cattle and intensified the search for the missing herders.

He said, “The briefing today is unique in the sense that of the hundreds of rescued victims, we singled out this particular situation where two Fulani boys were kidnapped and their cattle rescued in Owo local government area.

“We moved into action because they reported that the children who went out did not come back on time. First, we retrieved all the cows. Then, after looking for the children, we went to look for the two boys who had gone out with the cows.

“When it became apparent that the boys had been kidnapped, we went deep into the forest, linking Ondo to Edo State into an area called Abuja Forest between Ondo and Edo in our local government,” he said.

The commander said the search team eventually traced the kidnappers’ hideout and rescued the victims, adding that the suspected abductors fled after discovering that security operatives had surrounded the area.

Adeleye commended residents for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation, stressing that the agency remained committed to protecting all residents irrespective of their ethnic or religious background.

‎”Ondo State Security Network Agency does not discriminate. A criminal from Yoruba, from Igbo, from Hausa, or from Fulani is a criminal. We treat them as such,” he said.
