Father, Son, Daughter Killed In Another Benue Attack

In a fresh attack, four residents have been killed and several others injured in Abaushwa community, Ndzorov Council Ward of Guma local government area of Benue State.

It was gathered that a father, his son and daughter were killed by the invaders. The attack was allegedly carried out by suspected miltia herdsmen.

An eyewitness of the incident claimed that the attackers stormed Abaushwa village located near bajimba, the headquarters of Guma council at 11:30 p.m. on Monday. The militiamen reportedly shot at some residents they sighted. The incident was confirmed by the the Benue State Police Command.

The police authorities said four people were killed and added that bandits launched the attack. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, said, “I can confirm that there was an attack in Guma where four people were killed by suspected bandits, investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to book.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Guma LGA, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has condemned through his personal assistant on Communication and Strategy, Ernest Tortiv.

In a statement he issued yesterday, Orwough said, “The unfortunate attack claimed the lives of innocent people, left many others injured, and caused fear and destruction in the community.”
Orwough described the incident as heartbreaking and unacceptable.

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Orwough said security forces had already been deployed to Abaushwa to restore peace, protect the people and their property as well as prevent further attacks.

He urged the people to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and continue to provide useful information to help in the fight against insecurity.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over insecurity in Guma local government area, which has witnessed repeated attacks by the suspected armed herders for years now.
