Adamawa Deputy Gov Inspects Flood-Hit Communities

Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, on Wednesday led a government delegation on an inspection tour of communities affected by recent flooding in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate government intervention.

The delegation included the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Mohammed Suleiman; the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Sadiq Mohammed; and other government officials responsible for disaster management and environmental protection.

The team visited several flood-ravaged communities, including Bachure, Kasuwan Katako, the Half Cloverleaf axis in Sangere, Nyibango, and other affected locations where homes, businesses, public infrastructure, and other property were submerged by floodwaters following heavy rainfall.

Speaking after the inspection, Professor Farauta said the visit became necessary following reports of widespread flooding across parts of the state, stressing that the Adamawa State Government remained committed to safeguarding the lives and welfare of its citizens.

She explained that the exercise was aimed at conducting a firsthand assessment of the affected areas to determine the extent of the destruction and identify appropriate interventions for impacted communities.

The Deputy Governor attributed many of the flooding incidents to the construction of buildings on natural waterways and the blockage of drainage channels by indiscriminate refuse disposal. She urged residents to desist from erecting structures on waterways and to keep drainage systems free of waste to reduce the risk of future flooding.

Professor Farauta also advised prospective land buyers to verify the suitability of land before purchasing it for residential or commercial development, noting that proper planning would help prevent avoidable losses.

She assured residents that the Adamawa State Government would continue to invest in critical infrastructure and implement measures aimed at mitigating the impact of flooding while protecting lives and property across the state.
