Actress Angelina Jolie has asked a court to deny ex-husband Brad Pitt’s request for her historical financial records, arguing that his demands misrepresent her claims and invade her privacy.
In a recent court filing, Jolie’s legal team pushed back against Pitt’s attempt to compel financial documents dating back to 2017. Pitt’s team had claimed that Jolie placed her overall financial situation at issue by alleging she sought financial independence.
However, Jolie’s filing clarified that she specifically sought financial independence from Pitt, not that she was experiencing general financial hardship. Her lawyers argued that untangling her finances from her former spouse is separate from claiming financial distress.
The dispute stems from the ongoing legal battle over their shared French winery, Château Miraval. Jolie’s filing noted that she refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement proposed by Pitt as a condition for him purchasing her share of the property, choosing instead to sell her stake to another party. Her legal team stated that the dispute centers on ending her financial ties with Pitt rather than a need for funds.
Although her legal team maintains she was under no obligation to do so, Jolie has already provided tax returns and income statements for 2020 and 2021 to help resolve the disagreement. Her lawyers argued that requiring financial records prior to 2020 represents an unnecessary intrusion into her private affairs.
Pitt and Jolie separated in 2016, and their divorce was finalized in December 2024.
