Police Arrest Fifth Suspect Over Mob Killing Of Jos Model

The Plateau State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the murder of 25-year-old model Ibrahim Mbaya, with the arrest of a fifth suspect in Jos, the state capital.

The latest suspect was identified as 24-year-old Yusuf Christopher Beskeni, a University of Jos student and presidential aspirant for the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA).

Beskeni was apprehended following credible intelligence gathered by police detectives investigating the jungle justice incident.

His arrest brings the total number of suspects in police custody to five, following the earlier arrest of four individuals linked to the fatal beating of the UNIJOS graduate over an alleged missing iPhone.

Confirming the development on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, the spokesperson for the command, SP Alfred Alabo, revealed that preliminary investigations linked Beskeni directly to the torture of the victim.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Beskeni allegedly took part in the assault on Mbaya, including helping to tie him to a pole while he was being tortured by members of the mob, which ultimately led to his death,” Alabo stated.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, assured the family of the deceased and the public that the command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice.

“The Plateau State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has recorded another significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the alleged culpable homicide of Ibrahim Mbaya, following the arrest of an additional suspect connected to the tragic incident,” the police statement read.

The command added that manhunt efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest all other fleeing suspects involved in the extrajudicial killing.
