‎Ondo Tackles Hospital Power Crisis With 240kW Solar Intervention

‎The Ondo State Government has approved the installation of a 240kW solar power system at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo, in a move aimed at addressing electricity challenges and improving healthcare delivery in the state.

‎The project, according to the government, is designed to provide a reliable alternative energy source for the teaching hospital and support uninterrupted medical services, especially in critical areas that require constant power supply.

‎The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Johnson Alabi, disclosed this while briefing journalists, in Akure , the state capital.

‎He stated that Governor Aiyedatiwa approved the immediate commencement of the project in response to the increasing cost of energy consumption at the hospital.

‎Alabi explained that the intervention was part of the administration’s broader commitment to ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare for residents of the state by reducing the financial burden of electricity expenses on public health institutions.

‎”This strategic investment will ease the financial burden of energy expenses while enabling the institution to channel more resources towards improved healthcare delivery.”

‎The commissioner noted that the solar installation would enhance the hospital’s operations by providing stable electricity for medical equipment, emergency services and other essential healthcare activities.

‎He added that the project would support the state government’s target of achieving 24-hour power supply at UNIMEDTH, which would improve patient care, protect sensitive medical equipment and contribute to better health outcomes.

‎Alabi further revealed that preparations and mobilisation for the project had commenced following the governor’s approval, with the government targeting the commissioning of the solar power system within the first month of the last quarter of the year.
