Group Mobilises North For Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket

The Obi-Kwankwaso Inter-Community Alliance Network (OKICAN) has endorsed the presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections and unveiled plans to expand its grassroots structures across Northern Nigeria.

The group also declared its backing for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, as well as other party candidates.

In a statement signed by its national leader, Hon. Tableth Onuoha, OKICAN said it was mobilising non-indigenous communities across the state’s 44 local government areas into what it described as a coordinated political network.

Onuoha, a former councillor in Kano State and former presidential appointee, said the organisation was extending similar structures to all 19 Northern states as part of its preparations for the 2027 elections.

According to him, Kano remains strategically important because of its large population of residents from across the country.

“Kano is the political and commercial engine of Northern Nigeria, home to over 2.5 million non-indigenes who drive trade, industry and social development,” he said.

He added that communities, including Igbo, Yoruba, Edo, Delta, Ijaw, Idoma, Igala, Tiv, Ibibio, Nupe and other southern and Middle Belt ethnic groups, were being organised across the state.

The organisation said it plans to establish command teams in all 44 local government areas and 484 wards in Kano to coordinate voter education, permanent voter card (PVC) verification and election-day mobilisation.

OKICAN also disclosed that it intends to inaugurate state and local chapters across Northern Nigeria to work with resident ethnic associations, traders’ groups and community organisations.

As part of its strategy, the group said it would engage traditional leaders, market associations and relevant security agencies to encourage peaceful participation in the electoral process.

OKICAN called on resident community leaders and ethnic associations across Northern Nigeria to join its expanding network as it continues to establish structures in the region.
