Commission Illuminates Taraba Community With Solar Streetlights Project

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has intensified its rural transformation drive in Taraba State by installing solar-powered streetlights in the Bissuala Community in Kurmi local government area.

The intervention, executed under the commission’s “Let There Be Light” programme, has earned commendation from the traditional ruler of Kurmi, His Royal Highness, Justice Emanuel Dodo Audu III (rtd), the Ichen Kurmi.

Justice Audu, who led a delegation on a thank you visit to NEDC Taraba State Office, said the project had renewed the hope of the people on government and improved access to basic infrastructure to the area.

The Ichen Kurmi expressed the community’s appreciation for the solar streetlight project and other people’s oriented interventions implemented by the commission across the North-East.

The royal father described the project as a major boost to rural development, noting that improved street lighting would enhance night-time visibility, support economic activities and contribute to a safer environment for residents.

He commended NEDC for extending the intervention to Bissuala, saying the project had demonstrated the commission’s commitment to improving living conditions and addressing infrastructure deficits in underserved communities.

Justice Audu prayed for continued strength and divine guidance for the leadership of the commission, urging it to sustain its development across other communities in the state and the region.

Responding, the NEDC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Adamu Lawan, thanked the traditional ruler for the visit and the community’s show of appreciation.

Alhaji Lawan, assured that the Commission would continue to prioritise projects capable of transforming rural communities and improving the welfare of residents across the region.

He said, the visit was an indication that the Commission’s interventions were reaching their intended beneficiaries and making meaningful impact at the grassroots.

According to him, the NEDC remains committed to complementing government efforts by providing critical infrastructure and supporting programmes designed to address development challenges in communities affected by years of insecurity and limited access to basic social amenities.

The “Let There Be Light” programme provides solar-powered streetlights and solar-powered boreholes to communities, with the aim of expanding access to clean water, improving public safety and stimulating social and economic activities.

The intervention in Bissuala is expected to further support the community’s development aspirations while strengthening efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps in rural areas of Taraba State.
