ADC Governorship Aspirant Miqati Threatens Legal Action Over Kaduna Ticket Dispute

The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State has intensified, with one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Shu’aibu Miqati, vowing to pursue all available legal avenues to reclaim what he describes as his mandate following the disputed governorship primary ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Kaduna, Miqati insisted that the party’s Electoral Appeal Committee declared him the rightful winner of the governorship primary after reviewing petitions challenging the initial outcome.

The dispute arose after Isa Ashiru was initially announced as the winner of the ADC governorship primary. Following allegations of irregularities by some aspirants, the party established an Electoral Appeal Committee to investigate the complaints.

According to Miqati, the committee found merit in the petitions, overturned the earlier result and declared him the winner of the primary election.

He, however, alleged that despite the committee’s decision, the party had neither issued him the official certificate of return nor formally recognised him as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Miqati maintained that the primary election was marred by irregularities, which, he said, informed the committee’s decision to overturn the initial outcome.

He called on Isa Ashiru and his supporters to respect the committee’s findings and work together to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kaduna State.

The governorship aspirant also appealed to party members and supporters across the state to remain calm, united and committed to the ADC, expressing confidence that a cohesive party would be better positioned to offer a credible alternative in the next governorship election.

The ADC has yet to publicly clarify its official position on the Electoral Appeal Committee’s reported decision or formally announce its recognised governorship candidate for the 2027 Kaduna State governorship election.
