Suspected Boko Haram Fighter Arrested Over Attack On Army School

Troops have arrested a suspected Boko Haram fighter in connection with the attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NETTS) in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Musa Abdulhamid, was apprehended at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday while allegedly attempting to infiltrate the military facility, according to security sources.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdulhamid reportedly participated in the 8 May 2026 assault on the school. The suspect, a native of Potiskum in Yobe State, allegedly named three Boko Haram commanders Mohammed, Mustapha, and Ismail as the masterminds of the operation.

During interrogation, Abdulhamid told investigators that the attack was premeditated, with insurgents hiding in bushes near a rocky area around Buni Gari before launching the assault.

He also disclosed that the group lost more than 10 fighters during the operation, although the commanders did not disclose exact casualty figures to other members. Many of the attackers, he added, did not return to their camps.

The suspect further revealed that Boko Haram commanders typically withhold operational details until shortly before an attack, and that fighters’ mobile phones are confiscated before they are briefed and assigned targets. He admitted to carrying a rifle during the attack but could not identify the specific type of weapon.

Military sources confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and profiling.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from military authorities were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Security sources believe the information provided by the suspect could aid further investigations into the planning, command structure, and operational tactics of Boko Haram cells operating in the North-East.
