FCTA Orders Abuja Transport Operators to Vacate Illegal Parks, Use Designated Terminals

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed commercial transport operators using illegal parks and roadside loading points across Abuja to relocate to designated bus terminals or face enforcement action.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Chinedum Elechi, said all unauthorised loading points would be shut down, while vehicles that fail to comply with the directive would be impounded.

According to him, transport operators have been instructed to begin operating from the FCTA’s ultra-modern bus terminals, starting with the facility in Mabushi.

Elechi explained that the move follows a directive from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, aimed at restoring order, improving security and promoting a more organised public transport system in the nation’s capital.

He noted that the administration has invested billions of naira in developing modern bus terminals in Mabushi, Kugbo and the Central Business District (CBD), adding that centralising transport activities at the facilities would help tackle criminal activities often associated with illegal motor parks.

“The days of everybody doing what they like in the FCT are over,” Elechi said, stressing that Abuja should reflect the standards expected of a modern national capital.
