Troops Arrest 4 Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Rustled Cattle In Sokoto

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested four suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and recovered rustled cattle in Sokoto State.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2026, at Darusa Village Market.

The spokesman of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday in Sokoto.

Danja said the operation followed credible intelligence that suspected Lakurawa terrorists had infiltrated the market to sell cattle stolen during previous attacks.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops stormed the market, identified the suspects, and apprehended them without incident,” he said.

Items recovered include six cows, two mobile phones, and ₦165,000 suspected to be proceeds from the planned sale of the stolen livestock.

The suspects were identified as Usman Bammo, 45, of Huss Village, Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Muhammadu Dage, 25, of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State; Ali Usman, 23, of Binji, Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State; and Abubakar Garba, 30, of Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to Danja, the suspects are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary interrogation to determine the extent of their involvement in terrorist activities and cattle rustling linked to the Lakurawa network.

He added that the suspects would be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further investigation and prosecution upon conclusion of initial investigations.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA is the military’s ongoing counter-terrorism operation in the North-West aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and criminal elements threatening peace and security in the region.
