Tinubu’s Military Salary Increase Will Boost Troops’ Morale — SSI

The Society Security Initiative (SSI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving salary increases for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the development as a significant morale booster that will enhance the commitment and effectiveness of troops in the ongoing fight against insecurity across the country.

The group said the salary review, which provides increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent for military personnel, demonstrates the federal government’s appreciation of the sacrifices made daily by members of the Armed Forces in defending the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens from security threats.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its president, Abdulsalam Mohammed, the Society Security Initiative noted that improved welfare remains a critical factor in maintaining a motivated and professional military capable of addressing emerging security challenges.

According to the group, the decision by President Tinubu to substantially improve the remuneration of military personnel reflects visionary leadership and a clear understanding of the importance of troop welfare in national security management.

SSI stated that the salary increment would not only improve the living conditions of officers and soldiers but would also strengthen morale, boost productivity, and encourage greater dedication among personnel serving in various theatres of operation across the country.

The organisation commended President Tinubu for consistently demonstrating support for the Armed Forces through increased investments in defence, acquisition of modern equipment, and policies aimed at enhancing the welfare of military personnel.

The group also praised the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), for his commitment to advancing policies that improve the operational effectiveness and welfare of the nation’s armed forces.

It further lauded the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for his leadership and sustained efforts in coordinating military operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality threatening national peace and stability.

The Society Security Initiative expressed confidence that the improved salary structure would further motivate troops to sustain ongoing operations against criminal elements and contribute significantly to the restoration of peace in affected parts of the country.

The group urged military personnel to reciprocate the government’s gesture with renewed dedication, professionalism and patriotism, noting that a motivated military remains indispensable to achieving lasting security and national development.
