Bauchi Assembly Monitors Farm Inputs Distribution In 20 LGAs

The Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture has commenced an oversight exercise to monitor the distribution of subsidised farm inputs to farmers across the state’s 20 local government areas.

Chairman of the committee, Hon Dayyibu Muhammad, (Ganjuwa East Constituency), disclosed this yesterday while briefing journalists in Bauchi.

Muhammad said members of the committee had inspected fertiliser distribution centres in Toro, Tafawa Balewa and Dass LGAs, as well as the headquarters of the Bauchi State Agricultural Supply Company (BASAC), to assess the distribution process.

He explained that the exercise was aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and equitable distribution of farm inputs, while also improving farmers’ access to agricultural support services, particularly extension services.

The lawmaker commended the state Ministry of Agriculture and the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BSADP) for strengthening agricultural extension services across the state, especially in communities prone to flooding.

According to him, extension workers have been educating farmers on appropriate crop varieties and suitable planting periods to minimise the impact of flooding and enhance agricultural productivity.

He further disclosed that the recent recruitment of additional extension officers by the state government would strengthen the provision of technical support to farmers across the state.

“The committee is satisfied with the distribution process. The fertiliser is being sold to farmers at the approved subsidised price of N20,500 per bag,” he said.

Muhammad said the subsidised fertiliser programme followed the official launch of the 2026 farming season by Governor Bala Mohammed as part of measures to boost agricultural productivity, support farmers and enhance food security in the state.

He added that farmers across the 20 LGAs were accessing the fertiliser through designated government-approved sales outlets.

The chairman also disclosed that the committee observed that each local government had approximately five operational tractors to support farming activities during the current agricultural season.

He expressed optimism that the combined efforts of the state government, relevant agricultural agencies and the legislature would contribute to increased agricultural production and bumper harvests across the state.

Muhammad urged farmers to adhere to professional advice from agricultural extension officers and embrace modern farming techniques and mechanisation to improve yields and strengthen food production in Bauchi state.
