Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and other notable personalities were among dignitaries who attended the burial of the late Chief Ezinne Christiana Opara in Umuopara Obetiti, Nguru, Aboh Mbaise LGA of Imo State.
Other personalities at the event included the wife of former president, Dame Patience Jonathan; Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State; former Senate president, Chief Anyim Pious Anyim; former governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade; former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi and the Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Rev (Dr) Henry Ndukuba.
The matriarch, Chief Ezinne Christiana was the mother of Prof John Kennedy Opara, the pioneer executive secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC). She died at the age of 83.
Speaking at the Requiem Mass in honour of the deceased at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Umuopara Obetiti Nguru, Governor Uzodimma, who was represented by the deputy governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, condoled with the Opara family and urged them to draw strength from God.
“God who created her has taken her away at His own time,” he said. He described the Late Ezinne Christiana as a godly, hardworking, and philanthropic woman who instilled the values of service and generosity in her children and served God with utmost dedication.
The governor urged the family to sustain her enduring legacy and prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed.
Commiserating with the family, former President Jonathan prayed God to grant the soul of Chief Ezinne Christiana eternal rest and comforts her family with strength, grace and peace to bear the profound loss.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Prof John Kennedy Opara appreciated everyone who stood with the family in their moment of grief and prayed God to reward them abundantly and comfort them in their time of need.
Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State, Sir Nnamdi Anyaehie; the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, His Grace Ignatius Kaigama; other Bishops and clergy, captains of industry, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
