The majority leader of Benue State House of Assembly and member representing Kwande West constituency, Thomas Dugeri, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP.
Dugeri, who lost the APC return ticket for the State Assembly, emerged as the PDP candidate for the 2027 general elections.
State PDP Deputy Chairman, Adzua Ashongo, presented Dugeri to the immediate past Governor of Benue State and the PDP leader in the state, Samuel Ortom, in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting with Ortom, Dugeri assured the PDP of his loyalty and commitment, promising to work with other party stakeholders towards securing victory for the PDP.
Welcoming Dugeri to PDP, Ortom assured him and his supporters of equal opportunities and a level playing field within the party.
Ortom described PDP as a broad political family in which both old and new members play equal roles in strengthening the party and advancing its quest to return to power in 2027 to govern Benue State.
