Kano Emirate, Scholars Urge PrayERS For Peaceful 2027 Polls Peaceful Polls

The Kano Emirate Council and some Islamic scholars have asked Nigerians to pray for a peaceful, successful and credible 2027 general election.

They called on the citizens to promote peace, tolerance, moral discipline and responsible conduct as another electoral cycle approcahes.

The call was made at the recitation and memorisation of the Holy Qur’an, where religious leaders and dignitaries charged the graduates to reflect the teachings of the Holy Book in their daily lives and contribute positively to the society.

At the ceremony, the Sadauki of Kano, Awal Ado Bayero, who represented the Emir of Kano, congratulated the students on completing the Qur’anic programme and commended their parents for supporting them throughout their studies.

He urged the graduands to regard the feat as the beginning of a lifelong commitment to studying and practising the teachings of the Qur’an, saying the values acquired through Qur’anic education could help promote peaceful coexistence and responsible citizenship.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, we pray that the children will continue to pray for the country and that Nigeria will have a successful, peaceful and credible election,” Ado Bayero said.
The Sadauki also called on young Nigerians to continue reading and studying the Qur’an while urging the older generation to pass its teachings and values to their children and grandchildren.

He said the promotion of Qur’anic recitation and memorisation could contribute to moral discipline and good character among young people, particularly in the face of the social challenges the country is facing.

“I encourage the students to continue to uphold what they have been taught, particularly the recitation and memorisation of the Holy Qur’an. This is only the first day, and they are expected to continue with the Qur’anic recitation over the next two or three days,” he said.

The wife of the Katsina State Governor, Dr Aisha Bala Muhammed, represented at the event, also congratulated the Qur’anic graduates and urged them to make the Holy Book a guide throughout their lives.

She described the completion of the Qur’an as a remarkable achievement and prayed that the occasion would strengthen the celebrants’ relationship with Allah. “May Allah reward you for all the efforts, patience and dedication that brought you to this day,” she said.

She urged the graduates to allow the Qur’an to guide their character, decisions and relationships with others, praying that its teachings would bring peace and blessings to them and their families.

“May He make the Quran a light in your heart, a guide throughout your life, and a source of peace and blessings for you and your family,” she said.

She further prayed for increased knowledge and faith for the students and urged them to demonstrate the teachings of the Qur’an through their conduct. “May Allah continue to bless you, increase you in knowledge and faith, and make you among those who live by the Quran,” she added.

Similarly, the wife of the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hajia Abi Hafsat Abubakar Y. Suleiman, said the Qur’anic graduation was designed to strengthen children’s religious and moral upbringing and prepare them to become responsible members of society.

Hajia Suleiman, co-founder of the Nabalago Foundation, established by her husband, Right Honourable Dr Abubakar Y. Suleiman, said the foundation was sponsoring students from three Islamic schools participating in the programme.

She said the challenges facing society made it necessary for parents and institutions to give children proper religious and moral education, adding that the programme was also aimed at encouraging more young people to understand and practise the values of Islam.

“We need to ensure that our children have a proper understanding of their faith and are equipped with the basic knowledge and values of Islam,” she said.

Hajia Suleiman urged the students to become representatives of Islam through their conduct, stressing that they should demonstrate peace, tolerance and good character wherever they found themselves.

“It is not just about being Muslims; it is about representing what Islam stands for, which is peace,” she said, adding that young people could help correct misconceptions about Islam by demonstrating its teachings through their daily activities.

“There are many misconceptions about Islam today, so we want our children to go out there and demonstrate through their conduct and everyday activities what Islam truly represents. We want people to see through them that Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance and good character,” she said.

The Principal of the Abuja National Mosque Academy, Dr Shehu Usman Mohamad, said the Qur’anic graduation was intended to teach children not only how to recite and memorise the Holy Qur’an but also how to live according to its teachings.

He said the Qur’an provided guidance for Muslims throughout their lives and urged the graduates to apply what they had learnt upon returning to their communities.

“The idea behind this Quranic graduation ceremony is to teach our children how to live their lives according to the teachings of the Holy Quran. The Quran contains instructions and guidance for Muslims to follow throughout their lives,” he said.

Mohamad said adherence to Qur’anic teachings could help reduce crime, conflicts, and other social problems, arguing that failure to follow moral and religious principles was contributing to challenges in many communities.

“I believe that if people abide by the teachings of the Holy Quran, many of the security challenges and social problems we are experiencing today will be reduced,” he said.

He urged the graduates to live peacefully with their neighbours and other members of society and to remain committed to the values they had acquired through their Qur’anic education.

“As these children graduate and move into society, we want them to uphold the values they have learnt and live peacefully with others, including their neighbours,” Mohamad said.

The speakers called on parents, religious leaders and the wider society to sustain the religious and moral education of children, saying a generation raised with values of peace, tolerance, discipline and responsible citizenship could contribute to a more stable Nigeria.

They also encouraged the Qur’anic graduates to continue their studies and ensure that the knowledge they have acquired is reflected in their character and interactions with others as the country looks ahead to the 2027 general elections.
