Ukpechukwu Movement Rejects Godfatherism, Mobilises 11,000 In Delta

The Ukpechukwu Movement has rejected political godfatherism and declared that its membership had risen to 11,000 across the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The director-general of the movement, Mr Tezo Foster, disclosed this in a statement.
He said the membership comprises youths, women, traders, community leaders and other residents across the constituency.

Foster said the movement was established to promote citizens’ participation in the political process and strengthen engagement between constituents and their elected representatives.

He said the group had been organising ward-level mobilisation, community meetings and town hall discussions to enable residents to engage political actors on issues affecting their communities.

“We believe political representation should reflect the choices of voters rather than decisions reached through arrangements outside the electoral process,” Foster said.
He said the movement was opposed to political godfatherism, which could limit citizens’ participation in choosing political candidates and representatives.

The group also called for the protection of voters’ mandates through a transparent electoral process that would allow citizens to freely choose their representatives.

It advocated greater accountability in the National Assembly, urging elected representatives to remain responsive to their constituents’ needs and development priorities.

Foster said the movement would sustain its grassroots engagements across the constituency as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

He urged residents to assess candidates based on their programmes, capacity and commitment to public service.

The movement said its membership drive and community engagements would continue across the constituency’s three local government areas ahead of the elections.
