Oriire Abduction: Commission Calls For Memoranda, Sets August 14 Deadline

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Oyo State government to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area has invited members of the public to submit memoranda and other information that could aid its investigation.

The state government, in a statement shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday, said the commission was particularly interested in information relating to the abductions in Esinele and Yawota communities, as well as the actions taken by security agencies before, during and after the incident.

“The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Oriire abduction is calling for public memoranda,” the statement read.

According to the statement, all submissions must reach the commission on or before Friday, August 14, 2026.

It urged anyone with useful information about the incident to come forward, stressing that such contributions would assist the panel in establishing the circumstances surrounding the abduction.

The government said each memorandum should include the contributor’s full name, contact details and any relevant documents or materials that could support the information provided.

It added that physical submissions could be made at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, while electronic submissions should be sent to [email protected].

The government noted that the abduction of pupils, students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area sparked widespread concern across Oyo State before security agencies carried out operations that eventually secured the victims’ release.

It explained that the commission was established to determine the circumstances that led to the abduction and to assess the adequacy of security measures and the response before, during and after the incident.

“The Oyo State government remains committed to the safety of every community,” the statement added.

The commission is expected to examine memoranda relating to the abduction of pupils, students and teachers in Esinele, Yawota and other affected communities, as well as the security response before, during and after the incident.
