2027: We Fielded Candidates For Elective Positions Nationwide – NNPP

Amid delay caused by the series of litigations resulting from internal leadership crisis rocking the party, the founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, yesterday disclosed that the party was able to field over 90 per cent candidates of all the elective positions in the 2027 general elections nationwide.

Aniebonam stated this in Lagos, while speaking with newsmen after the party’s emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting that was held in Lagos.

He said fielding candidates across all contestable positions did not rule out strategic alliance with political parties that have like minds and ideologies like the NNPP in 2027.

“The NNPP as you all know has had so many delays. We are happy we have surmounted most of it. In the following weeks, Nigerians will begin to see and meet our candidates in their various states.

We can work with parties, where we feel they have a stronger hold and vice versa,” Aniebonam said.

Harping on why the NNPP will not zone its presidential ticket, Aniebonam explained that zoning applies to political parties that have contested and won the presidency and not  those yet to win.

“If we will ever consider zoning, it is to be when we would have won a presidential election.

“However, the NNPP has never supported the idea of zoning. We believe that the best person with integrity who can deliver should be allowed, even if successors have to come from the same region, as long as they deliver on good governance,’’ Aniebonam said.

He said that the party would be holding a non -elective convention before the end of August to have members interact on so many issues in the party.

“NNPP members have a lot of decisions to make on some issues that we do not want to be deliberated upon by the NWC alone. We want inclusive decision making on those issues,” he said.

Aniebonam urged members who had left the NNPP in the wake of its internal leadership crisis to return immediately ahead of replacement of place holders.
