Chris Brown Seeks New Trial In $13m Dog Bite Lawsuit

American singer Chris Brown has requested a new trial in a legal dispute with his former housekeeper, Maria Avila, following a $12.9 million court judgment against him.

Court documents  show that the lawsuit stems from an incident at Brown’s Los Angeles home, where Avila alleged she suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a dog.

Brown, who denied legal responsibility for the injuries, argues that the trial was unfair because the judge permitted testimony regarding his 2009 conviction involving singer Rihanna.

His legal team argued that bringing up the 17-year-old conviction was irrelevant to the dog bite claim and prejudiced the jury against him.

The court has not yet ruled on Brown’s application for a new trial.
