Gombe Sustains Revenue Growth, Records N17.55bn IGR in Six Months

Gombe State generated N17.55 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2026, representing 89.9 percent of its N19.53 billion target, as the state continues to strengthen its domestic revenue base and fiscal capacity.

The performance reflects the sustained impact of revenue reforms implemented by the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, aimed at improving revenue mobilisation, expanding the tax base, enhancing compliance and strengthening the efficiency of revenue administration.

Figures from the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) show that the state generated N9.48 billion in the first quarter against a target of N9.76 billion, representing 97.14 percent performance.

In the second quarter, GIRS recorded N8.07 billion against the same N9.76 billion target, representing 82.66 percent, bringing the total revenue generated between January and June to N17,553,849,743.91.

The latest performance builds on Gombe’s strong revenue showing in 2025, when the state generated over N40.7 billion, nearly twice the N20.72 billion recorded in 2024 and a substantial increase from the N6.8 billion recorded in 2019.

Speaking on the development, GIRS Chairperson, Aisha Adamu, FCNA, attributed the sustained growth to the administration’s comprehensive reforms designed to strengthen revenue collection, improve taxpayer compliance, broaden the revenue base and enhance institutional efficiency.

She said the first-half performance demonstrated the growing capacity of GIRS and increasing taxpayer responsiveness across the state, assuring that the agency would continue to consolidate the gains recorded in recent years.

According to her, the reforms go beyond increasing collections, focusing equally on building a transparent, efficient and sustainable revenue administration system capable of providing stronger support for the state’s development agenda.

Aisha commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his continued support to GIRS, describing his commitment to fiscal discipline, institutional strengthening and improved domestic revenue mobilisation as critical to the progress recorded.

The rising revenue profile has also enabled the state to set a more ambitious 2026 IGR target of N39.05 billion, up from approximately N25.7 billion in 2025.

With N17.55 billion already generated in the first six months, Gombe has recorded significant progress towards its annual target, strengthening its prospects for further revenue growth in the second half of the year.

Aisha assured residents, taxpayers and other stakeholders that GIRS would continue to improve revenue administration, strengthen compliance and expand the tax base while maintaining a conducive environment for individuals and businesses.

She called for continued cooperation from taxpayers, noting that taxes and other statutory revenues remain essential to financing public infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, social services and other government programmes.

Gombe State’s steady IGR growth remains one of the notable outcomes of the state’s fiscal reforms, with domestic revenue rising from N6.8 billion in 2019 to over N40.7 billion in 2025.
