Kano Court Remands 2 Over Alleged Demolition Of Watari Bridge

A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the remand of two men accused of demolishing the old Watari Bridge, removing construction materials and illegally carving out plots of land at the site.

The accused, Danlami Sulaiman, popularly known as Layayu, and Abdullahi Ibrahim, also known as Maraki, were arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 47 in Zangero, Kano State, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

They are facing allegations bordering on conspiracy, theft, trespass and unlawful entry.

The DSS alleged that the suspects visited a bridge in the Danjirima area of Kumbotso Local Government Area on July 22, 2026, where they allegedly demolished the structure and removed rods and iron materials from it.

The prosecution further alleged that the suspects subsequently used the area for the subdivision and sale of plots without obtaining authorisation from the relevant authorities.

When the charges were read to them in court, both defendants pleaded not guilty.

Following their pleas, the presiding magistrate, Abba Maiwada Abubakar, ordered that the two men be remanded in a correctional facility.

The court adjourned the matter until September 8, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
