The Katsina State Youth Parliament (KSYP) has received 755 applications from young people across the state, reflecting the growing interest among youths in governance, leadership and decision-making.
After a rigorous screening exercise, 109 applicants were shortlisted for interviews, from which 34 outstanding candidates were selected as nominees of the Katsina State Youth Parliament.
The nominees, each representing a constituency across the state, are expected to undergo a comprehensive Leadership and Legislative Capacity Development Training.
The training will equip them with skills in leadership, legislative processes, public policy, advocacy, public speaking, civic engagement and responsible representation.
The exercise was overseen by A1 Efficient Consult Limited, with emphasis placed on merit, competence, leadership potential, community engagement and commitment to public service.
Commenting on the outcome, the speaker of the Katsina State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Idris Zakari, commended the youths for their enthusiasm and willingness to participate in governance and decision-making processes.
Zakari described the 755 applications as an indication of the growing desire among Katsina youths to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the state.
He also commended the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, for providing opportunities for young people to participate in leadership and democratic processes.
The speaker said the Katsina State Leadership and Mentorship Programme is a continuous initiative of the Radda administration aimed at training, mentoring and equipping young people with the knowledge, skills and competencies required to compete effectively on the global stage.
According to him, the initiative goes beyond the establishment of the Youth Parliament, as it forms part of a broader commitment to developing a generation of young people prepared to assume leadership responsibilities and contribute positively to governance and society.
He noted that the high number of applications demonstrated the strong interest of Katsina youths in having a voice in governance, while underscoring the need for structured platforms that would enable them to build leadership capacity and engage constructively with public institutions.
The selected nominees are expected to proceed to the Leadership and Legislative Capacity Development Training, which will serve as a key component of their preparation for effective participation in the Katsina State Youth Parliament.
