Newborn Baby Allegedly Stolen From Benue Health Facility

A yet-to-be-identified woman has allegedly stolen a newborn baby shortly after delivery at the Comprehensive Health Centre in Gboko, Benue State.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, shortly after the baby was delivered.

Activist Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya disclosed the incident in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

According to him, eyewitnesses claimed that the suspect had been seen following the baby’s mother when she arrived at the health facility for delivery.

The woman was reportedly mistaken by nurses on duty for a relative accompanying the patient.

Yaaya alleged that at about 4:00 a.m., the suspect gained access to the ward, where she reportedly took the newborn and fled the facility.

Her whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.

The activist said the incident had been reported to security agencies, who are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and intensify efforts to locate the missing baby.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about security and identification procedures within healthcare facilities, particularly maternity wards where mothers and newborns require heightened protection.

Authorities have yet to publicly provide further details on the identity of the suspect, the missing newborn or the progress of the investigation.
