Governor Namadi Okays Solar Power Project In 42 Communities

As part of the administration of His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA’s efforts to provide sustainable, reliable and environmentally friendly public lighting infrastructure to communities across the state, the Council has approved the sum of Nine Hundred and Thirty-Two Million, Six Hundred and Five Thousand, Seventy Naira (N932,605,070.00) only for the supply and installation of integrated standalone solar streetlights in 42 selected semi-urban towns across the state.

According to the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, the project was part of Governor Namadi’s commitment to rural security and development, as well as encouraging the use of alternative and environmentally friendly energy.

The project is designed to improve visibility and safety within the benefiting communities, enhance night-time mobility and support socio-economic activities, while reducing dependence on conventional electricity supply for street lighting.

The approved installation of integrated standalone solar streetlights will be spread across 42 semi-urban towns in various parts of the state.

Installation of the integrated standalone solar streetlights is expected to significantly improve public safety and security in the benefiting communities by providing reliable illumination along streets and other public areas during the night.

By extending street lighting infrastructure to semi-urban communities, the initiative will further promote inclusive development and ensure that communities outside major urban centres also benefit from modern public infrastructure.
