Veteran Musician Saint Janet Complained Of Chest Pain Before Death — Family

Family members of veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, have revealed that the singer complained of chest pain and breathing difficulties shortly before her death.

Speaking in an interview with Alore TV, her daughter, Omowunmi, stated that the musician had performed at an overnight show in Sango, Ogun State, without showing any signs of illness.

“She performed the previous night. People even celebrated her with applause. We did not suspect anything,” Omowunmi said.

According to her, the singer later went to the market, returned home, and prepared a meal before complaining of severe chest pain and irregular breathing, after which she requested to be taken to a medical facility.

“I later noticed she was holding her chest. She said she felt like something wanted to drop off her chest. Her breathing was no longer regular,” Omowunmi added.

Her son, Orinayo, explained that hospital staff attended to the singer immediately upon arrival and placed her on oxygen, but she lost her pulse shortly after.

“I was told that she was having difficulty breathing. We took her to the hospital, and she was being attended to immediately. It was when they were looking for a pulse that she gave up,” Orinayo said.

Her daughter, Fola, also recalled the sudden nature of the illness, saying, “She complained of chest pain. She was not sick. They said she went to the market to buy foodstuffs.”

Her funeral is scheduled for August 25 and 26, 2026, which will follow nine days of prayer and thanksgiving.
