The Concerned National All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders Forum, has said, the only way the party can secure victory in the 2027 general election is through grassroots engagement and mobilisation.
Convener/national coordinator of the forum, Dr Dominic Alancha said this at the inauguration of states coordinators and Tinubu/Shettima Grassroots Canvassers in Abuja on Thursday.
Alancha stressed that if the party hierarchies want to secure victory in 2027, they must take politics beyond Abuja and the state capitals into every ward, community and polling unit.
He said the forum has a clear mission to build a formidable grassroots network capable of delivering polling units, wards, local government areas and states for the victory of the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
“The political reality before us is simple: elections are won at the grassroots. The people who determine elections are not only those who speak at political rallies or appear on television. They are the men and women in our communities; the market women, farmers, artisans, youths, professionals, civil servants, religious leaders, traditional institutions and ordinary citizens who ultimately walk to the polling unit to cast their votes.
“Therefore, if we want to secure victory in 2027, we must take politics beyond Abuja and the state capitals into every ward, community and polling unit.
“That is why we are inaugurating State Coordinators and Grassroots Canvassers today. You are not merely coordinators. You are ambassadors of our movement. You are grassroots communicators. You are vote mobilisers. You are listeners to the people. And you are frontline defenders of the democratic mandate of our party. Our responsibility is to engage Nigerians respectfully and honestly on issues.
“We must explain the policies and programmes of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, communicate the reforms being undertaken, acknowledge the challenges confronting our people and, most importantly, demonstrate why continuity, stability and progressive governance matter to Nigeria’s future,” Alancha added.
Also, chairman of the occasion and Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority Board Chairman, Dr Amos Gizo insisted that a support group
should neither be Abuja nor state or local government capital but ward
base to achieve the desisted results.
“When you talk about grassroots, if you truly mean what you say about grassroots, it now means you are touching on the real voter and the real voter is from the unit.
“Therefore, leaders at the national level, at the state level, at the local government and world levels, their concentration should be on the leaders of the unit, he stated.
Gizo said President Bola Tinubu, has allayed the fears of the Muslim-Muslim ticket among northern Christians in the build up to the 2023 general election though key appointments.
“If you are a Christian, especially those of us from the north, you will know that prior to 2023, there were a lot of concerns about the Muslim-Muslim ticket. But you will bear with me the truth that, that has not had any negative impact on us, even though we have had it better than any time before.
“Today, we have the Secretary to the Government of the Federation from the North Central Zone. We have the National Chairman of this great party from the North Central Zone. We have juicy positions – Minister of Defence. All these are courtesy of the man who does not take religion as a national thing. Rather, religion is a personal thing,” he added.
