Osun Election 2026: Osun Deputy Governor Raises Alarm Over BVAS Malfunction At Polling Unit

The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, has identified malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) as a major challenge affecting the smooth conduct of the ongoing governorship election in the state.

Adewusi raised the concern after casting his vote, saying the election at his polling unit started smoothly, with security personnel and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the ground and voters turning out to exercise their franchise.

In a video shared by Sahara Reporters, the Deputy Governor said the malfunctioning BVAS machines were slowing down the voting process and called on the electoral commission to provide backup devices to address the problem.

“BVAS is the major problem we are having. The election started on a very good note, securities are on ground. INEC are on ground, and you can see voters too on queue, trying to exercise their franchise. But the problem now is that the BVAS is causing a lot of problems. It’s malfunctioning. So my appeal is for them to change the BVAS machine, or have a backup. So this thing can move as quickly as possible.”

Adewusi, while expressing concern over the technical difficulties, acknowledged that he had successfully cast his ballot.

The complaint comes as voting continues across polling units in Osun State, with voters undergoing accreditation and casting their ballots amid reports of challenges with the electronic accreditation system.

The BVAS is used by INEC to verify voters’ identities and authenticate their Permanent Voter Cards before they are allowed to vote.
