Osun Election: APC Wins Bisi Akande’s Polling Unit

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the polling unit of former Osun State Governor and ex-Interim National Chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, in the ongoing governorship election.

The APC polled 181 votes at the polling unit located at Ita Atewogbade II, Isedo II Registration Area, Ila Local Government Area, where Akande cast his ballot earlier in the day.

The Accord Party came second with 121 votes, giving the APC a 60-vote lead at the polling unit.

The African Democratic Congress secured one vote, while the Action Democratic Party polled two votes.

A total of 305 valid votes were recorded, with the APC accounting for about 59.3 per cent of the valid votes cast.

Eleven ballots were rejected after voters’ thumbprints reportedly crossed the designated lines on the ballot papers.

The polling unit has 668 registered voters, while 316 ballots were accounted for, including the rejected votes, putting voter turnout at approximately 47.3 per cent.

The result is notable given the political realignments in Ila and across Osun State, particularly the movement of Governor Ademola Adeleke and a significant section of his former Peoples Democratic Party structure to the Accord Party.

The outcome gives the APC an early advantage over Accord in the immediate political territory of one of the state’s prominent political figures.
