Jigawa Opens Bids For N5.3bn Basic Education Contract

Jigawa State government has opened bids for the award of N5.331 billion contracts in its basic education sector.

At the bid opening session, the executive chairman of the board, Prof. Haruna Musa, said the projects would be executed under the UBEC/SUBEB 2025 intervention.

Musa, represented by the board’s director of Works, Isa Abdullahi, noted that the project had been segmented into 108 lots, with 324 companies participating in the bidding process.

He explained that the projects to be awarded include the renovation and construction of new classrooms, the supply of classroom furniture, the supply of learning materials (books for core subjects), the construction of boreholes, and the construction of toilet blocks.

The chairman noted that the projects would be executed in all the 27 local government areas of the state.

“These projects are part of the Governor Malam Umar Namadi administration’s effort to create an enabling environment for every child to have access to quality basic education. This also aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises access to education for all.”

“These projects will also strengthen Governor Namadi’s campaign against out-of-school children, encourage community participation and above all, achieve improved learning outcomes for the state’s foundational skills,” he said.

Prof. Musa revealed that the contracts will be awarded to qualified companies, and due process and transparency will be upheld in selecting the winners.

He assured the participating companies that the Jigawa State Government will honour all contractual agreements, including the timely payment of certified projects.

“We are also warning contractors that any attempt to compromise quality, standards, or contractual agreements will not be tolerated. The Jigawa State Government will not hesitate to take all necessary actions, including the revocation of such contracts,” Prof. Haruna stated.
