Ministry Empowers NAWOJ With N500,000 Enterprise Grant

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Taraba State chapter, has received a N500,000 enterprise support grant from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The grant was presented to the association by the minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, during the ongoing 26th National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The intervention is part of the federal government’s efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods and support women-led enterprises and organisations across the country.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the state chapter, the NAWOJ secretary, Doris Jauro Filbert, who represented the chairperson, Comrade Janet Nyajon Audu, commended the minister and the ministry for the gesture.

Audu said the grant demonstrated the federal government’s recognition of women’s contributions to national development, particularly women journalists involved in public enlightenment, advocacy and the promotion of issues affecting women, children and other vulnerable groups.

She assured the ministry that the funds would be judiciously utilised to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the association, while improving the capacity and welfare of its members.

The minister’s presentation formed part of the activities at the 26th National Council on Women’s Affairs, which focused on strengthening families, advancing the care economy, and promoting an inclusive social protection system for women, children, families, and other vulnerable groups.

The NAWOJ, however, expressed appreciation to the minister and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for the intervention.
