The police in Kebbi State have arrested a woman, Khadija Ibrahim, for allegedly stealing a newborn girl in Rikoto area of Zuru local government area.
The incident, according to the statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Bashir Usman, occurred in July 2026 after the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that she stole the newborn from one Fatima Muhammad, who had given birth in the area.
The suspect reportedly confessed to deceiving her husband about nine months that she was pregnant, and thereafter presented the stolen baby to him as their own.
The police said following sustained investigation, operatives arrested the suspect on 14th August, 2026, and confiscated the newborn from her and reunited the baby with her biological mother.
The commissioner of police, Umar Muhammad Hadejia, who condemned the action, directed that the suspect remain in police custody until the investigation is concluded.
He commended the personnel for their diligence and professionalism in arresting the woman and returning the girl to her birth mother.
