A 23-year-old man, Samuel Akoade, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command over the alleged killing of his 60-year-old mother, Mrs Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo local government area of Ondo State.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, at the deceased’s residence in Powerline Area, on the Ore-Okitipupa Road, where she was reportedly found lying in a pool of her blood.
The police said the deceased had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.
Following the report, operatives of the Ore Division mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene, while the police also photographed and documented the area as part of their investigation.
The suspect, who was initially identified simply as Samuel, reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of the police operatives but was later arrested following sustained efforts by the operatives.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the command arrested a suspected murderer, identified as Samuel Akoade, in connection with the killing of a 60-year-old woman, Mrs Olufunke Amoo, at Ore in Odigbo local government area.
Jimoh said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary, while the suspect remained in police custody.
He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.
