UK Police Standoff Ends After Suspect Falls Asleep On Salford Rooftop And Is Arrested

Police in Salford, England, have ended a 48-hour rooftop standoff after a wanted man fell asleep, allowing officers to climb onto the roof and arrest him.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the 37-year-old man was wanted on recall to prison when officers attempted to arrest him at a property on Reservoir Street on Thursday, August 13.

The incident continued for two days, causing disruption in the area and damage to nearby properties while significant police resources were deployed.

The standoff finally ended on Saturday, August 15, after the man fell asleep on top of a small rooftop structure. Tactical Aid Unit officers then climbed a ladder and pulled him down while he was unconscious.

A struggle reportedly broke out during the confrontation as officers brought him down. He was subsequently arrested in the garden.

Two officers were injured during the operation before police said the incident reached a “safe conclusion”.
