The Benue State House of Assembly has commended the state government under Governor Hyacinth Alia for the decision to upgrade the Aper Aku Stadium to FIFA standard and appealed to him not to abandon the project half way.
A statement issued by the speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Zape Michael Upaa, said the House received a report of the House Standing committee on Youth and Sports on their working visit to Aper Aku Stadium to ascertain the status of the execution of the contract for the renovation of the Stadium.
Presenting the House Standing Committee report during plenary presided over by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, the committee recommended that the House should in writing, withdraw the petition against Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Limited at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to demonstrate good faith and pave the way for amicable resolution.
The House committee further recommended that the Benue State Government, “Do endeavour to honour her contractual agreement with Monimichelle by ensuring timely payments to avoid project abandonment, unnecessary contract delays and possible litigation.
”The Benue State Government be commended for the decision to Upgrade the Aper Aku Stadium to FIFA Standard and further encouraged not to abandon the project half way.”
Reacting to the House Standing committee on Youth and Sports’ report and recommendations, the site manager of Aper Aku Stadium, Aersaa Kelvin Kerbem, hailed the Benue State House of Assembly and governor Hyacinth Alia for their unwavering support for sport infrastructure.
“We delighted to the timely resolution reached yesterday because Benue state needs a conducive stadium to bring back Lobi Stars to their glorious days back again,” he stated.
Kerbem welcomed the resolution that Monimichelle be paid timely to avoid project abandonment, unnecessary contract delays and possible litigation.
