Eid-el-Maulud: Wike Urges FCT Residents To Promote Peace, Unity, Dialogue

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Muslim faithful and other residents of the territory to use the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud celebration to promote peace, unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Wike, in a goodwill message to residents to mark the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), urged Nigerians to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings and emulate the virtues of compassion, sacrifice, patience, tolerance and fellowship.

The minister noted that the significance of Eid-el-Maulud extended beyond religious observance, stressing that the occasion provided an opportunity for individuals and communities to strengthen their commitment to peaceful coexistence.

He said the FCT, as the nation’s capital, was founded on the principles of unity and diversity and therefore required residents to demonstrate tolerance and mutual respect irrespective of their ethnic, religious or cultural backgrounds.

“The FCT was built on the foundation of unity, diversity, and tolerance for all Nigerians,” Wike stated.

He added, “There is the need for us to embrace the true meaning and virtues of sacrifice, patience, tolerance, and fellowship in our daily interactions.”

Wike also urged residents to adopt dialogue as the preferred approach to resolving disputes, noting that constructive engagement remained critical to sustaining peace and harmony in the nation’s capital.

He assured residents and visitors that the FCT Administration would continue to prioritise security and safety throughout the festive period and beyond.

The minister appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information that could assist in preventing crime and safeguarding communities across the territory.

According to him, collective responsibility and cooperation between residents and security agencies would contribute significantly to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment in the FCT.

Wike further urged Muslim faithful to use the occasion to pray for the peace, stability and prosperity of Nigeria, while demonstrating the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“May the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud bring peace to our homes, progress to our communities, and continued prosperity to the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria,” he said.

The minister wished Muslim faithful and all residents of the FCT a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
