Eid-el Maulud: President, Govs, Others Felicitate Muslims

President Tinubu has congratulated Muslims across the country on this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebration, urging them to imbibe the teachings and virtues of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), particularly tolerance, humility, perseverance and selflessness.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the President said the occasion should go beyond the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet to provide an opportunity for introspection, prayer and reflection on his “exceptional virtues”.

“The Muslim faithful should make a deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet,” he said.

Tinubu urged religious leaders to use the occasion to pray for the country and encourage their followers to translate the lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad into greater commitment to Nigeria.

He also urged Muslims celebrating the festival to extend a hand of fellowship to the needy and vulnerable, while calling for prayers against insecurity and other challenges confronting parts of the country.

Wike Urges FCT Residents To Promote Peace, Unity, Dialogue

On his part, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on Muslim faithful and other residents of the territory to use the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud celebration to promote peace, unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Wike, in a goodwill message to residents to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad, urged Nigerians to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings and emulate virtues of compassion, sacrifice, patience, tolerance and fellowship.

The minister noted that the significance of Eid-el-Maulud extended beyond religious observance, stressing that the occasion provided an opportunity for individuals and communities to strengthen their commitment to peaceful coexistence.

Kano Warns Youths Against Drug Abuse At Maulud Celebrations

Meanwhile, the Kano State Hisbah Board has warned youths who attend or organise gatherings featuring songs, processions and other forms of Maulud celebrations against drug use and intoxication.

The board’s Deputy Commander-General, Mujahedeen Ameen, gave the warning in a statement on Tuesday, saying anyone caught with drugs or found intoxicated would be arrested and prosecuted.

He said the month of Maulud was a period when Muslims across different backgrounds and communities expressed joy over the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

According to him, some youths often use Maulud celebrations as an opportunity to engage in social vices and other criminal activities.

Let Mercy Become Action, CAN Urges Nigerians

In his message to the Muslim faithful, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, urged Nigerians to embrace the values of mercy, compassion, justice and peaceful coexistence.

In a goodwill message marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad, Okoh called on Nigerians to translate the lessons of the occasion into concrete actions that promote human dignity, unity and care for the vulnerable.

He said Eid-el-Maulud offered Muslims an opportunity to reflect on the life and teachings of the Prophet, which he said were associated with mercy, honesty, justice, compassion for the poor and peaceful coexistence.

“Eid-el-Maulud commemorates the birth of the Prophet of Islam and provides an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on a life associated with mercy, justice, compassion for the poor and vulnerable, honesty and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Okoh noted that these values were particularly important at a time Nigerians were facing economic hardship, insecurity and other social challenges.

Mutfwang Greets Muslims, Calls For Peace, Tolerance

For his part, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, called on the Muslim faithful to use the occasion to reflect on the exemplary life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

Mutfwang, in a goodwill message issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, highlighted the Prophet’s virtues of peace, justice, compassion, tolerance and respect for people of different faiths.

The governor also commended the Jos Annual Maulud Committee of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) for adopting the theme, “Emulating the Prophetic Way of Peace, Mutual Respect and Religious Freedom”.

He said the theme aptly captured the values required to strengthen peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding in Nigeria’s diverse society.

Abbas, Kalu Task Muslims On Islamic Tenets

In his own goodwill message, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Abbas Tajudeen, through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, advised Muslims to follow the Prophet’s example and incorporate the Islamic principles he established into their daily lives.

Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in his own message, urged the Muslim faithful to sustain prayers for peace, prosperity and progress in the country.

Kalu, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the celebration and called for continued prayers for the nation.

Etsu Nupe Urges Muslims To Emulate Prophet’s Virtues

Delivering his own message for the occasion, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, urged Muslims to emulate the virtues and teachings of Prophet Muhammad for the sake of peace, unity and national progress.

He made the call on Tuesday at his Wadata Palace in Bida during a Maulud celebration commemorating the birth of the Prophet.

The traditional ruler said being a Muslim was not merely about professing the faith, but also about demonstrating the fear of Allah and conducting oneself in a manner acceptable to fellow human beings.

“It is not just enough to be a Muslim; you must also have the fear of Allah and behave most acceptably towards your fellow human beings. Let us revive the teachings of the Prophet by preaching peace wherever we find ourselves,” he said.

The Etsu Nupe urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and the progress of Nigeria, stressing that Maulud should go beyond merrymaking to reflection and practical emulation of the Prophet’s life and teachings.

He noted that Prophet Muhammad preached peace, love and unity, adding that Muslims should reflect those virtues in their daily lives.

Kwara Speaker, Emir Task Muslims On Fairness, Kindness

In their own Maulud message, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, called on Muslims to use the Eid-el-Maulud celebration to strengthen community bonds and uphold equity, fairness, justice and kindness.

Danladi-Salihu, in a message to Muslims, urged them to use the occasion to renew their commitment to building a more prosperous and harmonious Kwara State.

The message was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sheu Yusuf.

The Emir of Ilorin urged Muslims to reflect on the noble virtues of Prophet Muhammad, including humility, compassion, tolerance, honesty and service to humanity.

Sulu-Gambari stated this in a goodwill message issued by his spokesman, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona.

“Eid-Maulud is not just a celebration, it is a call to emulate the exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad,” the Emir said.

Zamfara First Lady Advocates Peace, Unity, Compassion

The Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal, felicitated with the Muslim Ummah in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud 2026.

In a goodwill message signed by her press secretary, Rabi Yusuf, Hajiya Lawal urged Muslims to reflect deeply on the life, character and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

She described the Prophet’s life as a “radiant, timeless beacon of kindness, patience and compassion” that should guide Muslims in their daily conduct.

She encouraged the faithful to uphold compassion, forgiveness, patience, humility and harmonious coexistence as foundations for peaceful and thriving communities.

“The life of Prophet Muhammad remains a radiant beacon of kindness, patience and compassion. I urge everyone to mirror these exceptional qualities within their families and wider communities, continually choosing peace and mutual understanding above all else,” she said.

The First Lady also called on the people of Zamfara to use the season to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and extend support to vulnerable and less privileged members of society.
