Kano Declares September 1 Work-Free Day For Takutaha Celebration

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a work-free day to enable residents to celebrate Takutaha, marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Office of the Head of Service, Rukayya Sulaiman.

According to the statement, the holiday falls on 19th Rabi’ul Awwal 1448AH and is intended to allow workers and residents to participate in the celebration and reflect on the life and teachings of the Prophet.

The Head of Service, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, urged civil servants to use the occasion to reflect on and practise the virtues associated with Prophet Muhammad, including honesty, patience, kindness, justice, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity.

Maimota also urged workers to maintain professionalism, dedication and good character in the discharge of their duties, in line with the values of the state civil service.

She called on residents to celebrate peacefully and use the occasion to promote unity, mutual respect and harmonious coexistence across the state.

The Head of Service prayed for a peaceful and successful Takutaha celebration and wished residents a joyous occasion.
